Podcast: Why was Kingfisher's entry into oneworld delayed, and what next for the airline?

In this podcast Addison, Vinay and I discuss the events that caused oneworld to suspend Kingfisher Airline's entry in to the alliance.

As an update, the higher amount of deposit demanded by the IATA Clearing House (ICH) is $8 million i.e. a total of $11.5 million.

Kingfisher is still paying in this money to ICH, but we understand that as of this morning it has not, and the airline still remains suspended from the ICH.

We tried clarifying this with the airline, but regretably the official spokespersons are not responding to our queries.

Podcast: The chaos in the Indian airline sector and suit by ATA to block US Ex-Im bank funding to Air India

India has the world's fastest growing airline sector - yes faster than even the Gulf, much of whose traffic is again driven by India. Year on year growth is 17%.

Despite this, in its 100th year, the civil aviation sector in India is in near total financial chaos. Air India is a political plaything that has no business being a business, but is being kept alive just to cater to the whims and fancies of the political, bureaucratic and labour aristocracy. The two leading private airlines Jet and Kingfisher are hurting financially. After the on-going fiasco at Kingfisher, the auditors of Jet Airways have sounded the alarm bells. There is sole shining star is IndiGo, but even there some tarnish is appearing.

Has Indian aviation reached a tipping point, like the telecom sector did in India, more than a decade ago?

We also discussed the suit filed by the US airlines industry body, Air Transport Association of America (ATA) against the US Exim bank for providing loans to Air India for purchasing Boeing aircraft.

Do take the time to post your thoughts via a comment. We sincerely appreciate your efforts and thank you for your participation.

Podcast: AirAsia Malaysia Airlines stock swap, Star's India misfire, Air India's 787 Dreamliner

Another edition of the Asian air scene podcast featuring Addison Schonland, Vinay Bhaskara and Devesh Agarwal. We covered the share swap between AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines and what benefits would it offer and what would it take away. In the India scene we covered the suspension of the application of national carrier Air India and the reported fait accompli presented by the Star Alliance to the Government of India, and how this is going to backfire on the alliance's members. We also covered the slightly delayed, yes again, entry of the 787 Dreamliner in to the Air India fleet, now expected in December 2011.

Audio Podcast: Air India on the skids

As per media reports, civil aviation minister Mr. Praful Patel announced in Chennai yesterday, there would be no job cuts despite the hugely over-bloated workforce at Air India.

This is precisely the political meddling and easy options approach that I had warned about in my earlier article.

Mr. Patel, if you are unable to help Air India management, at least please step out of the way and not hinder their efforts.

I have recorded an audio postcast with Addison Schonland of Innovation Analysis Group (IAG) on the state of Air India. Please give it a listen and do post your views via a comment.
